Studio A

CRAS Studio A

The Tempe and Gilbert Studio A recording studios are our flagship recording environments. Both locations feature an SSL 4000 Series console, the industry standard “large format board.” Used throughout the world by artists as diverse as Kanye West, Sting, Dr. Dre, Whitney Houston, Blur, Peter Gabriel and countless thousands of other artists and studios, the SSL 4000s at CRAS are the very same as those that have been the backbone of the recording industry for decades.

During the day, these studios are used for classes and band clinics. At night, they can be reserved for individual projects, giving students the opportunity to put their knowledge to the test in a real-world studio recording environment.

Studio B is where students get their initiation into the concepts and mechanics of large format recording consoles. Our Neotek Elite consoles, one at each campus, are the very same as those used in studios and on projects by artists such as The Blue Man Group, The Beastie Boys, Adrian Belew, Liz Phair and legions of others.

Studio C

CRAS Studio C

Our Studio C locations offer a medium sized space that is perfect for recording drums, a band or even a small orchestral ensemble. Both Studio C locations feature API Legacy Plus consoles, 24-track analog recorders and a range of outboard gear. API has a long history and has made consoles used by generations of engineers to record artists like the Shins, Mika, Morrissey, the Raconteurs and more.

Studio D

CRAS Studio D

Commonly referred to as “post,” post production is a fast growing segment of the audio industry and encompasses many disciplines native to HD/TV, gaming, DVDs and film. Our D studios introduce students to this unique an expanding field with a production environment centered around Pro Tools HD/TDM and the Digidesign C|24 control surface. Featured in both CRAS Studio D locations, this DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) has nearly 100% penetration industry-wide.

Studio D features an audio monitoring system by M&K. This 5.1 surround sound system is the same as used by studios like Skywalker Sound and Chase Productions. Studio D video monitoring is handled by a Stewart perforated screen and twin flat-panel displays.

Studio E

CRAS Studio E

Studio E, or the Broadcast Center, is the newest studio addition at CRAS. Broadcast Audio focuses on the opportunities and workflows and technologies that are specific to live television broadcast. Students will work out of the CRAS Broadcast audio production room as well as the CRAS mobile production trailer and be hands-on with the Studer broadcast audio mixing consoles. They will also gain an extensive understanding of the important role that communications systems have and get hands on experience with the industry standard RTS line of communications products, including configuration of the system using AZ Edit software installed on their laptop computer.

Studio F & G

CRAS Studios F & G

Studios F & G are two “mirrored” control rooms that share a common recording space. In studios F & G CRAS students, now tasked by independent, outside producers, go beyond their regular intense training by over-dubbing new tracks, “comp-ing” vocal takes and more… applying next-level dynamic and time-based processing, and mastering to existing projects. These two suites provide a “go time” environment in which CRAS students learn to deal with the everyday roles and responsibilities of a high-traffic production facility. The goal in Studios F & G is to build students’ working confidence helping them to excel in the field after graduation.
